The name Valle Nevado (Snowy Valley) originates from its most obvious geographic feature: a broad high-mountain valley in the Andes, whose slopes remain snow-covered for most of the year. From Farellones and its natural access points, the valley appears as a continuous white amphitheater, visible even from Santiago during winter, and this natural configuration was decisive in giving the ski resort its name.

The resort lies on the slopes of Cerro El Plomo, a landmark peak of the central Andes and historically considered sacred. Its snow permanence and wide valley reflect the very essence behind the resort’s name.

History

Valle Nevado is one of the most modern ski resorts in Chile, created in 1989 by French entrepreneurs who designed it following the model of European alpine resorts. From its inception, the project aimed to provide an all-inclusive mountain experience, combining skiing, lodging, gastronomy, and services in one high-altitude location.

Over the years, Valle Nevado has expanded its skiable terrain and introduced snow parks, a halfpipe for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, and heli-skiing opportunities. Since 2003, it has hosted a round of the Snowboard World Cup, establishing itself as an international competitive venue.
